The oceans are still greatly undiscovered and hold many mysteries just waiting to be discovered. As a matter of fact, scientists know more about the moon than they do about our great oceans. Thus, the Birch Aquarium is proud to be the public outreach center for Scripps Institution of Oceanography at the University of San Diego, California as they work to unravel all the oceans secrets.

Tide Pool Plaza, fun for all ages.
The Birch Aquarium prides itself on being an exciting learning experience for all ages. Interactive tide pools allow visitors to get up close to the animals for a hands-on experience. Allowing visitors this opportunity to get close to the creatures builds a more personal connection to the beauty that lies in the Pacific. Interact with a sea cucumber, starfish, or sea anemone, don’t worry, they don’t bite!
Little Blue Penguin Habitat
Get up close to the world’s smallest penguin and watch them swim and play at the Birch Aquarium! You can spot little blue penguins of all ages; from hatchlings to full-fledged adults, you may even see them getting a quick snack to eat. Learn about the challenges they face in an ever-changing world and about how you can take action top help and protect these little blue penguins.
Hall of Fishes
Visit the Hall of Fishes and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Pacific’s cold waters. You will also find some beautiful exhibits of Mexico’s tropical waters and even the Indo-Pacific coral reefs.
